Three Tips For Teaching The Bible To Your Kids
If you are a follower of the Christian faith and have kids, you likely want to figure out the best ways to help them learn about the bible. Since the bible is a highly complex, lengthy text compiled over several years and filled with imagery and lessons that can be interpreted in a number of ways, it can be difficult for adults to grasp, let alone children. As you continue to grow in your faith, you can use the following tips to bring your children along, so that they gain an understanding and appreciation for the bible in an age-appropriate manner.
Tip #1: Slowly And Consistently Introduce New Lessons And Concepts
Since the bible is something that is intended to carry you through the journey of your entire life, don't throw too much at your child all at once. Instead, acquire tools that can help them learn at a slow and consistent pace. For instance, when you first begin reading to them, you can read through chapters of a child-centered picture bible. As they grow a couple of years older, the memorization of certain concepts can be incorporated into their learning, along with things like colors, numbers, and the alphabet. Once they reach kindergarten age, you can slowly read a chapter or two of the full biblical text, while making sure to explain it along the way.
Tip #2: Add Play Into Learning
While most parents know that their children love to have fun and play, some tend to still make the mistake of making something as fundamentally important as bible study too serious or boring. If you want to make a faith in God something that liberates your child, rather than constrains them, add life and fun to each session with plenty of play time. For instance, you can have them act out stories like the birth of Christ or David and Goliath and come up with games and musical sessions that help impart lessons.
Tip #3: Send Them To Children's Church
One of the most important things you can do for your children's spiritual growth is allow them to go to children's church. Adult church is simply too long and constrained for your child to learn and express the energy they have inside. With children's church, they'll learn about the bible with other kids at their own pace and in a fun-filled, nurturing environment.
Follow these tips so that your kids can learn all about the bible.
